On January 14, at 1415 hours, Sussex EOC alerted Station 85 along with Lewes (82) and Memorial of Slaughter Beach (89) for a commercial structure fire at 12508 Coastal Highway, Snookies Speed Shop. Engine-Tanker 85-2 responded and arrived on scene at 1424 to find a commercial garage with heavy smoke showing. Deputy Chief Hopkins established 85 Command and immediately requested a tanker company assist from Ellendale (75). Crews from the Engine-Tanker, 82-1, and 89-5 stretched multiple lines into the structure, knocking the bulk of the fire in about 20 minutes. Crews remained on scene for about two hours completing overhaul and hitting hot spots. Chief Harvey assumed the command upon his arrival and Deputy Chief Hopkins was the operations officer. Asst. Chief Davis (82-20) had water supply operations.

Units responding, Engine-Tanker 85-2, Engines 4, 5, Tanker 85, Rescue 85, Ladder 85, A-85, Engines 82-1, 3, 5, 9, Ladder 82, Rescue 82, 82-8, D-82, Engine-Tanker 89-5, Tanker 89, Engine-Tanker 75-8, Tanker 75-4, Medic 101, 111, DSFP, DSFM 11, 16. Engine 42-5 and Tanker 77 provided coverups.
